YOUNG TURKS TAKE OVER
In a path breaking move, the 38th Annual General Meeting of the India Chapter of American Concrete Institute (ICACI) has elected all young Directors to the coveted positions of President, Vice President and Honourary Secretary.
ICACI’s Board of Direction (BOD) 2017-2019 is young, dynamic and raring to go.
Ms. Radhika Markan, recipient of the recent ‘Outstanding Woman Achiever in Leadership Role’ award from Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has been elected to the post of President. She is the first woman President of ICACI, and its youngest ever. With her elevation, the Indian engineering fraternity has shattered yet another glass ceiling. She is currently MD of H&K India – the world’s largest supplier of QST systems.
Further cementing women power in ICACI’s BOD, Ms. Ishita Manjrekar was elected Vice President. She is currently Director Technology of Sunanda Speciality Coatings Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, a well-known construction chemicals company whose operations extend from India to Nepal, UAE, Oman, Tanzania and USA. Ishita is a subject matter expert on sustainability and green technologies, whose expertise is regularly sought by Reuters, Financial Times, Bloomberg, Forbes, BBC News and Marketwatch.
Mr. Sunny Surlaker was elected the Honourary Secretary. Sunny completed his B.E. (Civil) from V.J.T.I. Mumbai and his Masters (Civil) from University of Michigan, USA. Sunny is currently Head, Admixtures Division at MC-Bauchemie India Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture with MC- Bauchemie, Germany, manufacturing over 200 construction chemicals. His pursuits include Concrete Technology, Admixtures, Construction Chemicals, Marketing, R&D and overseeing technical sales support for MC-India. He is also editor of Concrete India – ICACI’s Quarterly Journal.
All the three Office Bearers have significant global work experience and aim to bring international best practices into the day-to-day working of the Chapter Office.
At the same time, ICACI has kept a balance of experience and youth in the Board of Direction. By recent amendments in Chapter Bye-laws, it has been ensured that the Past Presidents of ICACI also continue to remain in the BOD. Accordingly, five Past Presidents are presently part of the BOD bringing in their rich experience.
Further, some more Directors with experience and dedication have now been inducted in the BOD as also Professors, Academicians and Researchers from all over India.

Dr. Rampradheep G.S. is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India.
Dr. Yogini Deshpande holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Mumbai University.
Shashank V. Mehendale is the founder and Principal Consultant of M/s Shashank Mehendale & Associates (SMA) – a multi-disciplinary organization that has been serving the construction industry for the last two decades.

Mr. Suhas R. Barve completed his Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) from IIT Bombay in 1983. At present he runs his owns consultancy firm, M/s. Barve Consultants, which specializes in Structural Designing, Architectural Planning, Interior Designing, Consultancy for Structural Repairs and PMC for Re-Development etc.
An internationally acclaimed authority on several aspects of cement, manufacturing and concrete technology, Dr. Subrato Chowdhury is the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Concrete Technologist’ Award from Indian Concrete Institute in 2012.
A renowned Consulting Structural and Civil Engineer, Mr. Dhupelia has for the past 45 years designed Structures of various kinds and complexities. He has adopted both conventional and modern technologies of construction in his projects spanning large housing and commercial complexes, industrial projects, high rise buildings, sewage and water treatment plants for private and public bodies and for World Bank aided projects.
Since 1984 Umesh Magar has been in the construction industry building some of India’s most successful ‘Sustainable Integrated Townships’.
