ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING INDIA CHAPTER OF AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE 2018-19

The Annual General Body meeting of India Chapter of ACI was held on Friday, 13th September 2019 at Hotel Kohinoor Park, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. The meeting was attended by more than 40 Chapter members. The gathering discussed the pre-circulated agenda during the length of the meeting.

Chapter President Ms. Radhika Markan and Hon. Secretary, Mr. Sunny Surlaker started the deliberations by welcoming all the members and presenting a report on the activities of the Board of Directors for the previous year. The office bearers reported the activities using a PowerPoint presentation covering various Chapter undertaking through the year. The topics further included presentation of the annual accounts, membership status, confirming auditors for FY 2019-20 and general discussions. The last agenda covered was election of the new Board of Direction as the previous Board retired in rotation. A new Board of Direction for the years 2019-2021 was selected based on nominations received.

The incoming Board of Direction and all members thanked the outgoing Board for their efforts to propel the activities of the India Chapter of ACI on national and international level during their tenure.

Dr. Raghuvir Salkar was elected as “President”. He completed his B.E. (Civil) from University of Bombay, his M.E. (Structures) from University of Poona and his PhD. (Structures) from University of Maine, USA.   He is the sole owner of M/s. Kuvelkar Salkar Associates (KSA) – an Engineering Design Consultancy Firm in Goa and a branch in Mumbai, with operations all over India and past operations in Indonesia and Ivory Coast. Dr.Salkar has published numerous papers in journals of international repute. Recommendations from his papers have been adopted in the U.S. Steel Design Code (2016 AISC Specification). Dr.Salkar is advisor to numerous organizations of the Government of Gujarat and Government of Goa.

Vice President: Mr. Sunny Surlaker was elected as “Vice-President”. He completed his B.E. (Civil) from V.J.T.I. Mumbai and his Masters (Civil) from University of Michigan, USA. He currently heads the Technical and R&D Division for Assess Build Chem Pvt. Ltd. and is the Director of Institute for International Talent Development, a training organization specializing in construction related training. He worked for over 12 years internationally in the field of Building Chemicals (across the USA, Europe, Brazil, Middle East and India). He is also editor of Concrete India – ICACI’s Quarterly Journal.

Honorary Secretary and Treasurer: Mr. Sourabh Manjrekar was elected as “Honorary Secretary and Treasurer”. Sourabh has completed his BS from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA, and his MBA from S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. He is a Director at Sunanda Specialty Coatings Pvt. Ltd., and an expert on corrosion mitigation in steel and concrete structures. Sourabh is regularly invited as a keynote speaker by apex industrial bodies such as Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). At Sunanda, his specific focus is on developing sustainable solutions for large industrial and infrastructure projects, besides overseeing the company’s global operations from its Dubai office. Sourabh has worked for over 12 years with some of the most reputed global structural engineering firms to provide innovative materials solutions for projects of international repute in more than 20 countries.

All the three Office Bearers have significant global work experience and aim to bring international best practices into the day-to-day working of the Chapter Office. At the same time, ICACI has kept a balance of experience and youth in the Board of Direction. By recent amendments in Chapter Bye-laws, it has been ensured that the Past Presidents of ICACI also continue to remain in the BOD. Accordingly, Six Past Presidents are presently part of the BOD contributing their rich experience to the functioning of the Board.

Further, the BoD of India Chapter of ACI is also now represented by Directors having rich and varied experience as Professors, Academicians, Professionals and Researchers from all over India.
