Successful Technical Evening Lecture by Prof. P.A. Muhammed Basheer, CBE
The India Chapter of ACI (IC-ACI) is pleased to share the details of this Technical Lecture by Prof. P.A. Muhammed Basheer, CBE, was successfully organised in association with the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Mumbai Centre, on Thursday, 16 July 2026, at Kohinoor Park, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
The topic of lecture was "Structural Health Monitoring for Predicting the In-Service Performance of Concrete Structures – A Case Study on Concrete Repair of a Bridge in Northern Ireland.
The programme began with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by the dignitaries. Dr. Vishal Thombare, President IC-ACI welcomed Prof. PAM Basheer and all the delegates present for the technical lecture.
Dr. Vishal Thombare, President, IC-ACI, and Prof. Abhay Bambole, Chairman, ICI-Mumbai Centre, briefed the audience about the activities of the respective organizations. Dr. Yogini Deshpande, Vice President, IC-ACI, introduced the distinguished speaker, Prof.P. A. M. Basheer, to the audience. In addition to that Dr. S. K. Manjrekar, Past President,IC-ACI added few words about Prof. PAM Basheer.
Prof. PAM Basheer, CBE explained how Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) helps engineers to assess the condition of structures, predict stresses in their element during long-term performance, and plan timely maintenance using advanced monitoring technologies and real-life case studies.
The lecture was attended by around 200 plus participants which was blend of Govt. Organisation, Construction Industry, such as BMC, MMRDA, MSRDC, PWD, and leading corporate companies including UltraTech Cement, Adani Cement, Afcons, B.G. Shirke, NCC, and Reliance, etc., and academic institutions including IIT Bombay, VJTI, SPCE, ICT, and NMIMS, along with members of various professional bodies, faculty, and students.
The session was interactive, and Prof. PAM Basheer answered all the questions raised by the participants. The lecture was on area of high relevance and was highly appreciated by everyone.

Prominent members from the industry, professional bodies, and academia, including representatives from IRC, BAI, ISSE, IIBE, ASCE, and IIT Bombay, VJTI, ICT were also felicitated during the programme.

Dr. Rampradheep G.S. is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India.
Dr. Yogini Deshpande holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Mumbai University.
Shashank V. Mehendale is the founder and Principal Consultant of M/s Shashank Mehendale & Associates (SMA) – a multi-disciplinary organization that has been serving the construction industry for the last two decades.
Mr. Suhas R. Barve completed his Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) from IIT Bombay in 1983. At present he runs his owns consultancy firm, M/s. Barve Consultants, which specializes in Structural Designing, Architectural Planning, Interior Designing, Consultancy for Structural Repairs and PMC for Re-Development etc.
An internationally acclaimed authority on several aspects of cement, manufacturing and concrete technology, Dr. Subrato Chowdhury is the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Concrete Technologist’ Award from Indian Concrete Institute in 2012.
A renowned Consulting Structural and Civil Engineer, Mr. Dhupelia has for the past 45 years designed Structures of various kinds and complexities. He has adopted both conventional and modern technologies of construction in his projects spanning large housing and commercial complexes, industrial projects, high rise buildings, sewage and water treatment plants for private and public bodies and for World Bank aided projects.
Since 1984 Umesh Magar has been in the construction industry building some of India’s most successful ‘Sustainable Integrated Townships’.
