INDIA CHAPTER OF ACI SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES NATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION AWARDS 2020

India Chapter of ACI [IC-ACI] successfully conducted and concluded its “2020 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards”, in March, 2020. Entries were evaluated by an independent panel of industry professionals comprising of Er. Satish Dhupelia, Ar. Shirish Sukhatme and Er. Jeevan Patgaonkar.  First Place and Runners Up awards were selected in each category, namely High-Rise Structures, Mid Rise Structures, Infrastructure, Decorative Concrete and Repair and Restoration. The event received interesting, technologically challenging and innovative entries, spanning a range of construction and structure types. The winners include:

  1. A 351 ft “Statue of Belief” Shiva Statue, built in RCC at Udaipur, India
  2. A Mega Residential Complex “Prestige Song of the South”, in Bengaluru, India
  3. A Mega IT SEZ Park for Wipro, in Bengaluru, India
  4. A High Level Cancer Hospital in Lucknow, India, with a special radiation shielded Basement
  5. The main building of a large Atomic Power Plant at Kakrapar, Gujarat, India
  6. Ferrocement Villas at Wai Village in Maharashtra, India
  7. Innovative Decorative Flooring
  8. Repair & Strengthening of Cooling Towers at Adani Thermal Power Plant, Mundra, India

These entries were executed and submitted by some of India’s top Construction companies such as Shapoorji-Pallonji Construction Private Limited, L&T Construction Private Limited and also by specialty companies such as Deep Ferrotech, Hicrete Decorative Systems Private Limited and 3E-SERVICES, Bengaluru. [More details in the two pictures]. The First Place Award winners, were endorsed to compete at the “Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards” organised by ACI-USA.

To showcase the salient features, technical challenges and innovations encountered in these projects, IC-ACI recently organised a Special Webinar on Saturday, 16th May 2020, where the project engineers delivered presentations to the attending members of IC-ACI and the construction fraternity in India. An interactive question and answer session at the end of the presentations, was a highlight of the event. The webinar was appreciated, well received and well attended by nearly 250 participants from all over India, Canada, Mauritius and Indonesia.

The awards and the webinar event was conducted under the guidance of IC-ACI President, Dr. Raghuvir Salkar, and was spearheaded by IC-ACI Director, Dr. Yogini Deshpande, and IC-ACI Vice President, Er. Sunny Surlaker with the support of the Board of Direction of IC-ACI. In the current condition, considering the pandemic, IC-ACI has forayed into the sphere of conducting successful online events to engage and connect to its members and the construction fraternity in India.
