Excellence Awards
India Chapter of ACI Successfully Concludes its National “Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards” for 2023 and 2024
We are pleased to announce that the India Chapter of ACI (IC-ACI) has once again successfully conducted its 5th Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in April 2024. An independent jury of industry professionals, comprising Ar. Prem Nath, Er. Atul Bhobe, and Er. Ashwin Moghe evaluated the entries.
First Place and Second Place awards were selected in each category, including Low Rise Structures, Mid Rise Structures, High Rise Structures, Infrastructure, Decorative Concrete, Repair and Restoration, Concrete Flatwork, and Bridges. The event showcased technologically challenging and innovative projects across various construction and structure types.

These entries were executed and submitted by some of India’s top construction companies, including Shapoorji Pallonji Construction Private Limited, Larsen & Toubro Construction Limited, ITD Cementation India Limited, and specialty companies such as Deep Ferro Tech, Siddharth Associates, Sanrachana Structural Strengthening Pvt. Ltd., National Capital Region Transport Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Prestige Estates Projects Ltd, Glider Buildcon Realtors Pvt. Ltd., Raymond Realty, and D.E.C. Infrastructure and Projects Pvt. Ltd.
The awards were conducted under the guidance of IC-ACI Immediate Past President Mr. Sunny Surlaker and were spearheaded by IC-ACI Hon.Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Yogini Deshpande, with the support of the IC-ACI Board of Direction. The awards ceremony concluded on Friday, 28th June 2024, in the august presence of winners and participants for the years 2023 and 2024 at Hotel Vivanta, Navi Mumbai. The awards were distributed in the presence of Chief Guest Shri. V. P. Ramgude, Chief Engineer (Design Circle), PWD Maharashtra, and many other dignitaries
Panel Discussion: A panel discussion on Modern Materials in Construction Industry for a Sustainable Future was moderated by Hon. Secretary & Treasurer Dr. Yogini Deshpande. The panelists included Chief Guest Shri. V. P. Ramgude, Chief Engineer (Design Circle), PWD Maharashtra; Dr. Shishir Bansal, Additional Director General,, CPWD; Mr. Sunil Desai, Managing Director, Dextra Group; and Dr. S.K. Manjrekar, Managing Director, Sunanda Global. The discussion highlighted emerging technologies and insights on key technologies shaping the future of the infrastructure industry. Notable topics included eco-friendly practices such as using couplers to reduce steel consumption, corrosion mitigation, and the use of super absorbent materials for internal curing of high-performance concrete. Dr. Manjrekar emphasized the evolving technical specifications in the infrastructure sector and their impact on ensuring the quality and longevity of construction projects. He also addressed the issue of carbon footprint and practical methods to achieving carbon neutrality and net-zero. The discussion was productive, with positive exchanges between industry and government officials on the role of technical specifications in enhancing construction quality and durability. We thank all the panel members for their time and valuable inputs.

Dr. Rampradheep G.S. is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, Erode, Tamil Nadu, India.
Dr. Yogini Deshpande holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Mumbai University.
Shashank V. Mehendale is the founder and Principal Consultant of M/s Shashank Mehendale & Associates (SMA) – a multi-disciplinary organization that has been serving the construction industry for the last two decades.
Mr. Suhas R. Barve completed his Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) from IIT Bombay in 1983. At present he runs his owns consultancy firm, M/s. Barve Consultants, which specializes in Structural Designing, Architectural Planning, Interior Designing, Consultancy for Structural Repairs and PMC for Re-Development etc.
An internationally acclaimed authority on several aspects of cement, manufacturing and concrete technology, Dr. Subrato Chowdhury is the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Concrete Technologist’ Award from Indian Concrete Institute in 2012.
A renowned Consulting Structural and Civil Engineer, Mr. Dhupelia has for the past 45 years designed Structures of various kinds and complexities. He has adopted both conventional and modern technologies of construction in his projects spanning large housing and commercial complexes, industrial projects, high rise buildings, sewage and water treatment plants for private and public bodies and for World Bank aided projects.
Since 1984 Umesh Magar has been in the construction industry building some of India’s most successful ‘Sustainable Integrated Townships’.
